Summer: The Perfect Season to Think About Potty Training

9/4/2011 | by Chris Lewis

Summer is a great time to potty train – whether you are just thinking about starting the process, stuck in a rut along the journey, or hoping to motivate your toddler toward success before sending them off to pre-school. Summer heat, lighter clothes and additional free time create the perfect atmosphere to start, continue or wrap-up the training process.  Here are a few reasons why summer is the best time to potty train:

1) Fewer Layers: Most parents who start potty training in the winter will tell you that rushing to the bathroom and taking off lots of layers sometimes takes way too long – and often leads to accidents.  Training in the summer months is much easier because it’s simpler to help your toddler get out of their summer clothes quickly. Those precious seconds can make a big difference!

2) Slower Schedules: Schedules are usually less packed which lends time to focus on training. Set aside a few days for you and your toddler to concentrate on potty training.  If your kids (or you!) tend to lose track of time, check out the new Pull Ups® Potty Timer. These new wearable timers are available in Disney Designs (so kids will want to wear them) and can be set to remind you and your tot when it is time to try using the potty. I can remember times when my own children were having so much fun outside they didn’t realize it was time to come in for a potty break!  The watch, paired with new Disney Pixar Cars 2 and Princess Pull-Ups® can make potty training more exciting for your child with familiar and favorite characters.

3) Less Laundry: Who knew kids create so much laundry? Potty training in the summer means accidents are restricted to just shorts or dresses or light layers.  And less laundry means a much happier parent and more play time!

4) Preschool is Coming:The school year is almost here and many parents are preparing their tots for preschool – which often means a bigger focus on potty training.  Before you begin, make sure your tot is showing a few signs of readiness, like staying dry through naps, showing interest in the potty and is able to follow instructions.

With the warm summer months here and great resources from Pull-Ups®, you have a solid jumping off point to start, continue or master the potty training process. If your child is showing signs they’re ready, there is no better time to start!
